The vision & challenge

A passenger may need to explain a destination, ask a driver to change the route, or clarify a stop — all while sitting in a moving vehicle with no common language.

Traditional translation tools ask users to switch between applications, type messages, select languages manually, and repeatedly show translations to the other person. Language barriers become particularly difficult when they occur during transportation.

The goal was a ride-focused translation experience where passengers and drivers simply speak, receive translations, and hear the translated response — and one that stays extremely simple for travellers who need it quickly while entering or during a ride.

From concept to launch

We approached RideShare AI Translate as a focused mobile product where simplicity, speed and AI integration were central to the user experience.

Making translation natural during a ride

Translation apps are traditionally built around typed text and generic conversations, which creates friction when people need to communicate quickly inside a moving vehicle.

We centred the experience on voice-to-voice communication, with a one-tap microphone interaction so starting a conversation takes no setup at all.

Supporting communication across many languages

International travellers can meet drivers speaking almost any language, and manual language configuration adds friction — particularly when a user does not know what the other person is speaking.

Automatic language detection sits alongside AI-powered translation, with real-time support across 100+ languages so the app stays useful across a broad range of destinations.

Making translations audible for drivers

A translated message on a passenger's phone is not practical for a driver who needs to keep their attention on the road.

Bluetooth speaker support plays translated responses aloud, so the conversation can happen naturally inside the vehicle rather than through a screen.

Creating a ride-specific translation experience

Generic translation apps are not designed around the realities of rideshare and taxi journeys, which turn on destinations, pickups, stops and quick exchanges.

We built the product around the passenger–driver relationship, for use across rideshare services and traditional taxis alike, keeping the translation experience relevant to what actually gets said during a ride.
